This blog celebrates the losers.
It celebrates the nuanced, bizarre and surreptitiously brilliant work of architects and designers that are less concerned with winning than with breaking rules. Since the tony academies of the Beaux-Arts churned out 500 foot high cenotaphs, it has always been the losers, the 2nd-placers, and the honorably mentioned that yield the most exciting conversations within our practice.
Though Fail by Design belongs to the Internet meme popularized by failblog, it does not thumb its nose at bad work. Instead, it seeks to valorize the efforts of those designers that pursue the pure, gratuitous ecstasy of making architecture. And have a f*cking good time doing it.
